fire on the mountain

in effort to make myself feel better about the raging fire thats moving down the mountain not 4 miles from where we live, not 2 miles from bella's school, the blue haze that has settled thick in the valley, and the scent of smoke permeating ever so slowly inside, the title of this post has a 2-fold meaning.

at least one of my readers (maria) may remember a certain margarita party from yester year, whereupon approximately 15 or so women gathered secretly under bean dip and tortillas and the guise (maria?) that we were doing something proactive, learning the art of spousal massage only to recoil in hushed horror as our guide(s) for the evening were ~ how to put this delicately ~ not exactly what we'd expected.

i think i managed to pick up at least one tip from that evening. possibly two. never touch tequila again. and the quote, "wherever 2 or more are gathered"? i don't know that God neccesarily meant women. i think perhaps that verse could've gone with a re-phrase. you've heard the old "when women plan, God laughs", right? and the party remains, to this day, one of those things. that which must not be spoken of...

anyway. while the actual fire is not in the slightest controlled, rain is on the way and they're still holding off on evacuating, having moved in 2 more *hot shot* teams from the 2 surrounding states, working feverishly so we don't have to.

so meanwhile, i have other things to concern myself with. like, hoping i don't get stuck with an enormous fee for not mailing my direct tv boxes back in on time. or the loss of jason castro (although merited) in my life, or waiting for the locksmith to show up and rescue my stupidity. always make copies, kids. ok? always. and then, just in case you don't, always get the additional protection on your insurance.

you'd think bella would be tickled pink that she gets to spend some extra valuable time with the tv and cartoons this morning, but no. instead, she's irritated that she'll be missing a magical day in the 2nd grade.

wonders never cease.
